Passion for Jesus, Wonder and Adventure

Mission Statement

Our mission is to challenge young people to do great exploits in the Kingdom by utilizing excellence in the Arts to transform lives. Arts Evangelica students take the Arts out into the community and beyond - to orphanages, elderly homes, special needs schools, homeless shelters, and yes - to the nations! We incorporate all of the Arts but we specialize in dance worship and we teach children to draw near to God as a part of their training. Arts Evangelica students progress from beginners to pre-professionals, studying Classical Ballet/Pointe, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Drama, Voice and more in a Christian environment of excellence. No child is turned away due to finances and the school provides financial assistance when needed. Arts Evangelica re-writes Classical Ballets and Fairytales and reclaims them for God's glory with Jesus as the hero. The school also produces original scores and scripts for Musical Theatre productions. These productions are created to be evangelical and can easily be adapted to fit on a dirt floor in a small village or onto the finest stage in a large theatre - wherever God leads.  We encourage our students to pursue the Arts as a career and to use them to spread the Gospel worldwide.

Leaders

Lisa Kidd is the Founder and Director of Arts Evangelica.  She and her Dance Company of “Mighty (Wo)Men” are known for glorifying God through dance, a legacy spanning over three decades. What started as the Lisa Kidd Dance studio has developed into the International Ministry of Arts Evangelica.  Passion for Jesus, Wonder and Adventure are the heart of Arts Evangelica and Lisa has an innovative approach to teaching. She trains her students to excel in dance, drama and music and to be “ambassadors” of Arts Evangelica - to the poor, homeless, elderly, orphaned and those with special needs.  Lisa loves to work with all ages and encourages her students to do great exploits which have taken her family and her dancers throughout the US and abroad to Israel, Nicaragua, Europe, South Africa and other parts of the world. Their mission is to share God’s love and to glorify Him in all that they do, both on and offstage.

Lisa graduated Summa Cum Laude with BFA and AA Degrees in Dance (specializing in Classical Ballet/Pointe and Modern), Drama and Music (Vocal Performance).  Her work has been recognized by Dance Teacher Now and Todays Christian Woman magazines.  Recently, a testimony from Arts Evangelica’s Israel mission was published in the book Intercession Through Creative Expression by Joern Lange and Lisa also had the honor of endorsing the book.

Arts Evangelica is about family.  Lisa is married to Grady who is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Arts Evangelica. The couple combines their gifts of dance, drama, music and art with their love for Jesus to create performances that are radiant with worship.  They have two sons, Gray and Liston who are also gifted in drama and music.  Gray is married to Karen, an Arts Evangelica Dance Company alumna.  The entire family is actively involved in the ministry and most recently, for Arts Evangelica’s Beauty and the Beast, they joined Lisa and Grady on the stage.  Gray performed the role of Jesus and Karen was featured as The Rose and danced to an original score written and performed by Liston.  They got an outstanding review by their biggest fan, the Kidd family’s newest addition, grandson Grayson James Kidd.  Grayson will make his debut at Arts Evangelica this season and will join the Kidd family and dancers for Mission Philippines!

Susanna Sutton is the Assistant Director of Arts Evangelica. She began dancing at the age of three and has trained at Arts Evangelica for over 20 years. She has been an active Dance Company member for over 10 years. Susanna has both performed and gained teaching experience in a variety of dance styles through ministry opportunities with Arts Evangelica and other organizations around the world. Most recently, Susanna was the visionary and choreographer of Arts Evangelica’s original Christian version of Beauty and the Beast in which she performed the role of Belle and her husband Sam the role of the Beast.  Susanna and Sam share the Arts Evangelica vision to spread the Gospel to the local Triad community and beyond through dance.

Arts Evangelica welcomes Elise Staub. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University, with honors, obtaining a Major in Dance and a Minor in Psychology. Elise performed with the Appalachian Dance Ensemble and choreographed several pieces for ASU.  In addition, Elise was a featured dancer and member of the Appalachian Momentum Dance Club and was also connected with Harvest House Ministries, performing and ministering with them during her time at Appalachian State. She also studied Kinesiology at UNCG for a year and half to better understand how the body moves and is currently finishing her certification in Pilates. Elise will be offering Pilates as part of our new Fall season of classes.  She will also be teaching Classical and Contemporary Ballet, Pointe and a diverse array of Jazz and Modern classes - all from the Christian perspective that Arts Evangelica is known for.  Elise has known about Arts Evangelica for many years but lived too far away to ever attend.  She has always dreamed of being a part of a studio dedicated to glorifying God through dance and will be joining our team of Leaders this season to realize that dream.

Staff

Kristin Casey began training at Arts Evangelica when she was 10 years old.  She grew up in the ministry and was inducted into the Dance Company when she was 17. After assisting Little Lambs and Genesis classes for just a few months, it was obvious that she had a gift for teaching young children.  She joined the Staff in 2016 and began to focus on Youth Ministry at Arts Evangelica and her church.  She has danced many roles in Arts Evangelica's ballets, her favorite being Firebird.  She has loved performing but says she "enjoys being backstage with the little ones the most".  Arts Evangelica is blessed to have her watching over the Little Lambs.  In addition to teaching at Arts Evangelica, Kristin is attending Davidson County Community College to obtain an AA Degree and then she hopes to continue her education to achieve additional Degrees in Youth Ministry and Business.

Melissa Huckabee is an alumna of Arts Evangelica. She started her AE dance journey at the age of three. In her years at AE, she trained in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, Tap and Clogging. Some of her best memories include her performance as Cinderella in Arts Evangelica's original Christian version of the ballet and traveling with AE to Israel to worship the Lord through dance in the Holy Land.  Melissa also trained for a short time at UNCSA as a part of their preparatory program where she had the chance to perform in their annual Nutcracker.  She will be joining our team of teachers in Archdale this Fall and is also helping Arts Evangelica to set up a satellite in Kernersville to expand the reach of the ministry throughout the Piedmont!

Jordan Lance is an imaginative teacher and choreographer for Arts Evangelica. She has been dancing at the school for six years and teaching classes and privates for three. She was invited to join Arts Evangelica’s Dance Company at age fourteen and has loved every minute of traveling the world to share the amazing Gospel through dance alongside her peers. Her favorite aspect of dance is capturing the raw emotion of life through choreography. Her pieces have debuted on Arts Evangelica’s stage several times in recitals as well as in Arts Evangelica’s original ballets, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. Her pieces have also twice won first place at the 4-H District Activity Day. In Arts Evangelica’s latest ballet, Beauty and the Beast, Jordan acted the role of the Narrator, in addition to several other core parts. She is excited to be a part of the Arts Evangelica staff, mentoring young girls and continuing to spread the Gospel across the nations through the arts.

Lobby Team

Angie Hodge and Karen Younger are parents of Arts Evangelica students (Dance Company members Kaylea Hodge and Ashton Younger).  This "Dynamic Duo" volunteers their time just so they can have their daughters attend the school - that "says it all" for our ministry and what it means in the lives of our families.  Mrs. Angie and Mrs. Karen are well known at Arts Evangelica as The Lobby Team and they manage the office of the school with excellence and dedication.  They are the radiant faces you will often see as you check in your dancer and they are always working behind the scenes to help make Arts Evangelica shine for Jesus.
